Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British drama film directed by Danny Boyle, written by Simon Beaufoy, and produced by Christian Colson. Set against the backdrop of India's child labor market, it tells the story of an impoverished 18-year-old boy in the Indian capital of Mumbai who wins the lottery after answering a quiz on television. Truer words were never spoken than those uttered by Gujju Bhai (Dev Patel) when he says "Don't play with your heart; you'll only get hurt." Gujjubhai (Dev Patel), along with his friend Jamal (Jonny Lee Miller), plans to rob people on their game show because they need money for food. He meets the $500,000 question-answering contestant, Shalini Devi (Leena Chandani), and falls in love with her. The same night, he and Jamal succeed robbing a famous billionaire's house and make their getaway using Shalini's gold card. When the police arrive to arrest them, Sartaj Singh (Aamir Khan), a cop who was investigating the house invasion case, sees Gujjubhai and Jamal about to get away on a motorcycle. After watching Gujjubhai take Shalini's gold card from the room, Sartaj pulls over his car into an alley. Gujjubhai gets off the motorcycle and a struggle ensues. The two men wrestle on the ground. Sartaj accidentally fires his gun during the struggle, which causes Gujjubhai to run away. He hides in a nearby house, but is found by Sartaj after being informed by a family member of the homeowner that they saw a man enter their house. Sartaj runs after Gujjubhai and brings him back to Shalini's house, where her father (Anupam Kher) refuses to identify Gujjubhai as one of the robbers. Sartaj's superior, Inspector Bhola Rathod (Jackie Shroff), arrives the next day and asks Gujjubhai to tell him what happened. Gujjubhai tells them everything, including how he got the gold card, but doesn't mention Sartaj because he'd promised to keep Shalini's location secret. Later that night, while Sartaj and Shalini are in their bedroom kissing, Gujjubhai sneaks into Sartaj's apartment and takes his gun. He breaks into the house of Chief Minister Devendra Shah (Lodewijk de Vries) and steals money from his safe (he misses Sartaj's wallet in which he had $10). He flees from the house and is chased by Sartaj and his two partners, Inspectors Tiwari (Ali Fazal) and Shah. After a long chase, Gujjubhai collapses from a bullet wound in his leg, which he sustained while fleeing from the chief minister's house. He gives Sartaj his gun back and tells him that this is what they mean when they say, "a man who never forgets to give back a thing that belongs to another man." Gujjubhai then explains that he staged the entire ordeal in hopes of winning Shalini's heart. He then leaves to go back home. cfa1e77820
